AE’O TOWER
A’eo, located on a 3.6-acre site in Ward Village and developed by The Howard Hughes Corporation, includes 466 residential units ranging from studios to three-bedrooms. The 40-story tower is anchored by a multi-level Whole Foods Market and street-level retail serving the Kaka’ako neighborhood.
The design, a collaboration between Design Architect Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and Architect of Record Architects Hawaii, is inspired by the dynamism of Hawaiian trade winds.
The art program features bold colors and active mark-making that reference the Hawaiian Stilt (the A’eo bird) and its flight patterns. The project honors the history of the land, once known as the ‘ili of Kukulu, which was home to the A’eo among taro fields and salt ponds.
